Canopy & Campfires CIC Strand

Widening access to nature-based support for young people.

Canopy & Campfires CIC is our new community-interest strand of Canopy & Campfires, established to extend our work through external funding, subsidised provision and community projects. Through grants, funded programmes and partnerships, the CIC will enable us to work with young people and communities who may not otherwise be able to access our services.

Our Vision

We believe every young person should have the chance to experience belonging, reflection and growth in nature, regardless of background or circumstance.

Through the CIC, we aim to remove barriers to access, developing subsidised and fully funded opportunities for schools, families and children's services.

As we grow, our vision is to make nature-based wellbeing more accessible, sustainable and embedded within the community, helping young people to thrive, not just cope.

Our Intention

The CIC will bid for grants and commissions to design, develop and fund projects that support young people and communities.

It will develop outdoor wellbeing projects in response to identified needs, build partnerships, and commission skilled, experienced practitioners and other affiliates to deliver them.

We’ve recently completed our CIC pilot scheme from our first winning bid, with huge thanks to Action Together Rochdale Communities Fund

The Roots & Resilience Woodland Wellbeing Programme helped part or fully fund:

  • 5 X Wilderness Mentoring programmes

  • 2 X Wilderness Wellbeing with Counselling programmes

  • 2 X Wilderness Wellbeing with Woodland Arts & Crafts programmes

  • 1 X Group Forest School programme

  • 5 X Taster Sessions

This has been a great start for Canopy & Campfires CIC, and helped support a number of young people aged 14-16 across Rochdale Borough.

Our next endeavour is now underway, with funding from The National Lottery Community Fund. This will provide a limited amount of free programmes for disadvantaged young people aged 11-18, outside of school hours, and free workshops during school holidays.

Referrals are currently being accepted for the Lottery-funded project from families, school staff, care workers and other organisations, subject to eligibility.
